Former lacrosse legend Pat Spencer is making a strong case for more minutes with the Warriors after an impressive five-game stretch.
Capitalizing on each opportunity, Spencer has turned increased responsibility into impact. Right now, he’s delivering consistent production and composure that has pushed him firmly into Steve Kerr’s rotation. Having made three starts this season, Spencer’s recent form suggests extended minutes could allow him to show his full potential to Dub Nation.

A Five-Game Stretch That Changed the Conversation
Spencer’s time with the Warriors has largely been defined by patience. Undrafted in 2021, he spent time with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League before joining Golden State in 2024. Since then, his NBA opportunities have been limited and dictated by injuries and roster availability, rather than a consistent role.
But when Spencer’s given time and minutes, his value is shown. In his last five-game stretch, he proved his value as a true Warrior. Within these games, he’s averaging 15.2 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per night, a clear uptick from his season averages and evidence of just how much he’s contributed when trusted with the ball.
In many of these games, the Warriors have been without key veterans such as Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green, sidelined through a combination of injury and rest. The absence ignited a flame for the 29-year-old guard to step up into a larger role with the Dubs. His shooting efficiency has improved notably this season, scoring 42% from the three point range compared to 23% last season. While only having started three games so far, this recent stretch has highlighted why Spencer is a viable option within Kerr’s system in the Bay.
Why Spencer Fits Steve Kerr’s System
As a role player, Spencer fits naturally within Kerr’s system. It prioritizes ball movement and off-ball awareness, areas in which Spencer truly excels. His ability to consistently make correct reads in transition and half-court sets makes him a valuable asset for Golden State. He fits seamlessly alongside the Warriors’ stars, while also recognising when to take on greater responsibility.
With Spencer in the lineup, the Warriors have remained competitive. They’ve become a winning team when he starts. His unselfish play style and improved shooting efficiency have made him a dependable option within Kerr’s system, strengthening the case for continued success as the season progresses.
What this Form Means for the Warriors
Spencer’s path to meaningful minutes has never been conventional. But his recent form is making a compelling case for an expanded role with the Warriors. His recent form reflects his ability to adapt naturally to different lineups and roles within Kerr’s system. A former lacrosse standout who set NCAA college records, Spencer is finally showing Dub Nation that same level of energy, intelligence, and competitiveness on the court.
The guard rotation has long been competitive at Golden State. With Curry returning from injury, it remains unlikely Spencer will start regularly for the remainder of the season. However, continued consistency could see Spencer earn more well-deserved minutes alongside the greatest shooter of all time, but I guess we’ll find out.
