Los Angeles Lakers megastar LeBron James appears to be getting ready to take a break from social media. Whether it’s temporary or permanent remains to be seen.
Taking to X a few hours ago, LeBron shared a post from Rich Kleiman about the negative impact that social media has had on sports and society. He followed that up with an announcement that he is getting off social media “for the time being.”
“And with that said I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care,” LeBron wrote after sharing Kleiman’s post.

Some users believe it can only help LeBron to get off social media:
“Twitter has become largely untenable. Selfishly, I hope he deactivates his account,” former ESPN analyst Jemele Hill posted on X.
“If this means you’re locked in for a championship then by all means take your time King. Everyone needs a break from social media at times but I know you have a task at hand and that is to bring a championship to the city of angels once again!,” wrote another.
“NOOOO LEBRONNNN DONT GOOO,” a third wrote.
Others are less impressed by his departure, making jokes about how Michal Jordan would never be bullied off social media or simply admonishing him for making it public:
“This isn’t an airport, we don’t need an announcement of your departure,” one user joked.
“Stay safe buddy! See you tomorrow!” another joked.
“Friendly reminder that LeBron James is a 40-year-old man announcing his social media hiatus the same way high school girls do. You’re a grown man— just log off. Why do you have to announce it to the world?” a third wrote.
While millions of people have started migrating to and from specific social media sites in the aftermath of the presidential election, not nearly as many have left social media altogether.
Will LeBron stay off social media for good, or is this just a temporary break?
