The Los Angeles Lakers continue to be very interested in hiring UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley to be their head coach.
They met with him on Friday in Los Angeles and are preparing a massive contract offer for him.
Despite the heavy interest from the Lakers, senior NBA writer Sam Amico thinks Hurley is going to sign a long-term extension with UConn this summer. He also thinks JJ Redick will be the next head coach of the Lakers.
“I think Dan Hurley gets a nice extension from UConn this summer. I’ve heard the NBA job he would really want, as a gritty East Coast guy, would be the Knicks. Hurley will get a raise and the Lakers will get JJ Redick and to say at least they tried,” Amico tweeted.
Hurley has been with UConn for the last six seasons and has led the program to back-to-back national titles. He’s also compiled a 141-58 record since taking over the team.
The Lakers are looking for a new head coach after firing Darvin Ham because of a first-round playoff loss to the Denver Nuggets.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are willing to make a “massive long-term” offer to Hurley.
