ESPN has paid considerable attention to a certain Los Angeles Lakers rookie. However, it’s apparently taken longer to discover Quincy Olivari.
Los Angeles signed Olivari to a two-way contract following a standout preseason. The undrafted rookie from Xavier recorded 22 points and seven rebounds in Friday’s exhibition game against the Golden State Warriors.
Olivari can make his NBA debut on Tuesday night when the Lakers commence their 2024-25 regular season against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Earlier that morning, his mother called out ESPN for an embarrassing blunder.
Courtney Olivari shared a screenshot of her son’s ESPN page, as seen on Google. The page has a picture of the wrong player, so she included one of Quincy from the team’s media day.
“ESPN doesn’t have a thumbnail pic for my son,” she wrote on social media. “Please allow me to help you out. Use this one.”
Courtney later claimed that ESPN changed the picture three times without getting it right. Perhaps the company noticed her message, as Olivari’s player page now has the correct photo.
ESPN isn’t the only one unfamiliar with his game. Many fans asked about the identity of No. 41 when they saw Olivari alongside LeBron James at the team’s media event last month.
However, the 6-foot-2 guard made an impression by shooting 52.2 percent from the floor and 57.1 from behind the three-point line in four preseason games. Olivari helped ignite a comeback win over the Milwaukee Bucks with 11 points before playing 39 minutes against Golden State on Friday.
Following the game, the 23-year-old got emotional when discussing how much it meant to meet Stephen Curry.
“That’s my favorite player ever,” Olivari said of Curry. “The first thing he told me was, ‘I’m a big fan of your game.’ And like, truth be told, I’m a big fan of him.”
Olivari could introduce himself to a TNT audience if he sees the court during Tuesday’s season opener, which tips off at 10 p.m. ET.
