Luka Doncic has undergone a dramatic conditioning transformation this offseason, dropping significant weight and implementing strict diet and cardio training following his trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Slovenian star’s commitment to fitness represented a major shift from his previous offseason routines.
Doncic spent an entire month away from on-court basketball work to focus exclusively on his physical conditioning. This departure from his normal summer routine has produced visible results, with recent photos showing Doncic appearing noticeably slimmer.
The 26-year-old is now back to basketball activities, working out with Slovenia’s national team as they prepare for EuroBasket competition later this summer. His dedication to physical fitness has drawn attention from basketball observers who noted his previous conditioning habits.
Doncic’s commitment to better conditioning was cited as one of the factors leading to the Mavericks’ stunning decision to trade him to Los Angeles ahead of the 2025 trade deadline. Throughout his time with the Mavericks, Doncic frequently played himself into shape during the regular season rather than arriving in peak physical condition.
His conditioning concerns were compounded by recurring injury issues. Doncic suffered multiple calf strain injuries during his Dallas tenure, most recently sustaining one on Christmas Day last year.
The Mavericks organization and Doncic’s personal training team disagreed on recovery timelines for his calf injury. Dallas reportedly attempted to bring the superstar back from the strain earlier than his personal trainers preferred, creating additional tension between the parties.
