LeBron James is reportedly doing his part to help lure a longtime rival to the Los Angeles Lakers as free agency gets underway.
According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, James contacted former Warriors All-Star Klay Thompson as soon as he possibly could to try to get him to come back home to LA.
I’m told LeBron James called Klay Thompson right when free agency opened at 6 p.m. Eastern… The expectation that I have right now is that these conversations, this negotiation will go into tomorrow. There probably will not be a resolution tonight. But certainly Dallas, the Lakers, the Clippers are working to be involved in this. Those are the prominent teams for Klay Thompson whose career is going to be somewhere other than Golden State once this free agency period is over.
Yesterday it was reported that Klay and the Warriors were likely headed towards a split after 13 years and four championships together.
The writing was almost certainly on the wall after the Golden State sharpshooter was reported to have turned down a two-year, $48 million extension with the team last summer and began coming off the bench in the second half of this season.
If this is the end for Thompson in The Bay, his last game with the Dubs will be an 0-for-10 shooting performance in a 24-point Play-In loss to the Sacramento Kings.
