In one of the first updates since sustaining his injury, LeBron James spoke about his recovery from a sprained MCL.
The Lakers wrapped up their season not just with a whimper, but literally limping to the finish line.
Austin Reaves battled a toe injury throughout the series but the far more notable injury was to LeBron James. During Game 5, LeBron banged knees with Donte DiVincenzo, suffering a Grade 2 MCL sprain.
Ultimately, the injury did not matter all that much as the Lakers season came to an end anyway. And with it not being too serious of an injury, it shouldn’t have impacted much of LeBron’s summer either.
To that point, he spoke with the Associated Press recently and provided an update on his knee, stating that it was “good” and that he expects to be ready for training camp.
“I have a lot of time to take care of my injury, my knee, the rest of my body and make sure I’m as close to 100 percent as possible when training camp begins in late September,” James told the AP.
The one silver lining of the Lakers’ season ending so early is that it afforded LeBron more time to recuperate. Relative to the offseason, it wasn’t an injury that was going to take long to heal and considering that LeBron typically rests to start the offseason, it likely wasn’t something that impacted his plans hardly at all.
When Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported the injury, it was noted that it’s typically a 3-5 week recovery timeline. That was on May 2, which is now over six weeks ago. Even if recovery ran long, LeBron is likely back to full health now.
Hopefully, that means LeBron is able to attack the offseason as he normally would moving forward and is ready to roll coming September and the start of training camp.
