LeBron James is reportedly set to become a free agent this offseason.
According to Dan Wolke of the Los Angeles Times, James is expected to opt out of the final year of his contract, though the expectation is that he’ll sign another deal with the Lakers.
Still, that doesn’t mean teams won’t at least try to talk to James assuming he opts out. They could try and convince him to go elsewhere even though he’s been with the Lakers for the last six seasons.
James will be looking for an even bigger payday since this could be the last contract of his career. After all, he’s 39 and will turn 40 during the 2024-25 season.
Despite his age, he’s still one of the best players in the NBA. He helped the Lakers make the playoffs this year, averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game.
The Lakers are fresh off a first-round exit against the Denver Nuggets and also just hired JJ Redick as their new head coach. Redick comes over from ESPN after serving as an NBA analyst.
James has led the Lakers to one NBA title since joining the team and has won four NBA titles in his career.
