His career may be primed to last longer than any of us expected, but one thing won’t be following him to the twilight of his career: His record-setting points per game streak.
For 20 straight seasons LeBron has averaged at least 25 points per game over the full season. However, with the Lakers’ 2024-25 season set to end tomorrow and LeBron not expected to play, there will be no 21st straight season.
LeBron’s streak will officially be snapped as he finished the season just shy of the 25 points per game mark with an average of 24.4 points per game. Though he likely wouldn’t have been able to get over 25 points even if he did play tomorrow.
LeBron played in 70 games and scored 1,710 points over the season. It was his second-highest points total over a season in the past seven years.
The longest 25+ PPG streak in NBA history is over 🤯

Fans of LeBron were largely upset to see the incredible streak fall, though some had jokes:
“Such an underachiever! Haha. It was bound to happen,” one user declared.
“LeBron had to slow down at some point. 24.4PPG at age 40 is still unheard of!” wrote another.
“Just change it to averaged 24+ PPG for 21 straight seasons then,” another suggested.
“What’s crazy is he could’ve easily averaged 25 again, but the team and wins come first for him. He let Luka and Austin cook this past month.”
“The next player with 22 years of NBA experience averaged 5 points per game. What we are witnessing isn’t normal.”

The Lakers will finish the 2024-25 season with either 50 or 51 wins. It’s worth noting that the last time they won that many games, they went on to win the NBA Finals. Granted, it was during the infamous “bubble season,” but 52-19 is no easy feat.
Between LeBron being an ageless wonder and Luka Doncic continuing to be just as dominant in LA as he was in Dallas, there’s every reason to believe that the Lakers can challenge for an NBA title.
The Lakers will begin their playoff run as the No. 3 seed in the West and will take on the No. 6 seed in the weeks to come.
