The Los Angeles Lakers signed Anthony Davis to a three-year, $186 million contract extension in August 2023, but there was a possibility that was going to be the last one they would sign him to. Davis was eligible for another extension with the Lakers during the 2025 offseason.
“I’ve known that it was unlikely that A.D. was going to get an extension with the Lakers,” said Chris Haynes on Oddball. “I was always told to be on the lookout of something potentially happen with A.D. over the summer. I didn’t anticipate something happening in February.”
Davis waived his $6 million trade kicker as part of the trade for the Mavericks.
The Dallas Mavericks, who acquired Davis, had similar concerns about signing Doncic to a five-year, $345 million supermax extension this offseason.
