The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to hire Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks as assistant coaches under JJ Redick. McMillan and Brooks have 31 combined seasons of head coaching experience between them to help Redick in his first season coaching int the NBA.
McMillan didn’t coach lat season after he was dismissed at the All-Star break in 2023 by the Atlanta Hawks. McMillan initially joined the Hawks as an assistant coach in 2020 before he replaced Lloyd Pierce a few months later and guided the team to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Brooks spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers under Chauncey Bills. Brooks was most recently head coach of the Washington Wizards.
Redick is beginning a four-year contract as head coach of the Lakers, leaving the media industry where he was ESPN’s lead color commentator and also a popular podcast host.
