Lakers Cutting Veteran Player Ahead Of NBA Playoffs

March 29, 2025 by The Spun

The 10 Biggest Free Agent Moves Of The 2025 NFL Offseason (1:31)

Now is the time for NBA teams to begin getting their rosters in order for the upcoming postseason.

The Los Angeles Lakers are playoff-bound. With 10 regular season games remaining, LA is 44-28 overall and in fourth place in the ultra-competitive Western Conference. With an eye on next month, the Lakers made a roster move on Thursday, converting guard Jordan Goodwin’s contract from a two-way deal to a standard pact, which makes him eligible for postseason play.

To make space for the 26-year-old Goodwin, the Lakers have waived veteran wing Cam Reddish, a former first-round pick, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

“The Lakers are waiving Cam Reddish to create roster space for Goodwin, sources tell ESPN,” Charania tweeted. “Goodwin has grabbed at least one offensive rebound in 18 of his 19 games played, providing a spark for the Lakers off the bench.”

Goodwin, who previously spent time with the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns and Memphis Grizzlies, signed a two-way deal with the Lakers on Feb. 7 and made his debut the following day.

In 19 games, the 6-foot-4 guard has posted 6.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per appearance while shooting 47.0% from the field and 41.3% from three-point range. He’s become a valued component of head coach JJ Redick’s second unit.

As for Reddish, the 10th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles actually tried to include him in the deal for Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams at the NBA trade deadline, only to have the move voided due to questions about Williams’ health.

In 33 games for Los Angeles this season, Reddish averaged 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

Now in his sixth professional season, Reddish will be moving on to his fifth team.

The former Duke one-and-done has already suited up for the Lakers, Hawks, New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers.
