With the 55th pick in this year’s NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James. It was a move that many people saw coming since he’s the son of LeBron James.
On Friday afternoon, the Lakers had an update to share regarding Bronny. The former USC guard has already picked his jersey number for the 2024-25 season.
Bronny will wear No. 9 for the Lakers this year.

Bronny and LeBron are set to become the first father-son duo in NBA history. That’ll be the main talking point for the Lakers this season.
Outside of the obvious family connection, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka made it abundantly clear that he likes what Bronny brings to the table as a prospect.
“Bronny is first and foremost a person of high character. And secondly, he’s a young man who works incredibly hard,” Pelinka said in a statement. “Those are the qualities we look for in drafting players and adding to our developmental core at the Lakers. He had a great draft workout with us where he displayed those qualities. In terms of his work ethic, we’ve all seen that lived out, too. He’s not a person who has ever taken shortcuts or expected or been entitled about basketball opportunities.”
