While he may not be the same perennial All-Star that he was five years ago, Klay Thompson is still a bonafide NBA star and a player who just about every team would want to add. But it takes two to tango and there’s one team that Thompson seems especially interested in.
According to Brad Turner of the LA Times, Thompson is “intrigued” about the prospect of playing with the Los Angeles Lakers and megastar LeBron James. That interest is contingent on LeBron re-signing with the Lakers, but he intends to speak to the team early in free agency – along with the Mavericks.
“Sources: Klay Thompson is intrigued about playing with the Lakers and LeBron James, provided he re-signs with the Lakers. Thompson plans on talking with the Lakers, as well as Dallas,” Turner wrote.
Thompson averaged 17.9 points per game this past season, his lowest per game average since his early years in the NBA.
Fans seem mixed on whether Thompson and the Lakers would be a good fit though:
“Klay playing for the Lakers would be nasty payback,” one user mused.
“The Lakers aren’t a move away from being a contender but they also aren’t 6 moves away. Klay has his worries (age, health, can be accept being #3 or even #4 on a team), but he’s still a HOFer with maybe 1-2 decent years left. He can catch fire and win you a series,” wrote another.
“Would not be surprised one bit when he eventually chooses the Lakers,” a third wrote.
Will Thompson join the Lakers?
