The Los Angeles Lakers and JJ Redick have signed a multi-year contract extension. Redick led the Lakers to a 50-32 record in his first season of a four-year deal originally signed in June 2024.
“We think he’s a special coach with a special voice that’s really helping us define the culture of Lakers excellence,” Rob Pelinka said. “We just wanted to make a clear statement that this is what we believe in, what we’re going to lean into and what our players are going to mold into as we continue to develop the identity. I think having long-term planning is helpful as we build this team and go forward.”
The Redick extension follows an agreement from the Buss family to sell a majority stake in the team to Mark Walter. The Lakers signed Pelinka to an extension of his own prior to the sale agreement to Walter.
“It’s not lost on me, this sort of rarity of a first-time head coach getting an extension,” Redick said Thursday. “I recognize how fortunate I am to be in an organization that supports me in that way.”
The Lakers hired Redick before the 2024-25 season after also having conversations with Danny Hurley.
