During this Tuesday’s introductory press conference for Bronny James, Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick went out of his way to squash certain narratives about the young guard.
Redick wanted everyone to know that Los Angeles didn’t draft Bronny because he’s the son of LeBron James. He said the former USC guard earned this moment.
“With Bronny, I want to clarify one thing you just said, which is Rob and I did not give Bronny anything,” Redick said. “Bronny has earned this.”
Redick then raved about Bronny’s attributes and why the team is high on his potential.
“For us prioritizing player development, we view Bronny as case study No. 1. His base level of feel, athleticism, point of attack defender, shooting, passing – there’s a lot to like about his game.”
Bronny was later asked by reporters to share any lessons his father taught him regarding the NBA.
“Just having that work ethic and coming in and getting your work in and listening to your coaches and being coachable,” Bronny said. “Stuff like that has been driven into my head my whole life.”
NBA fans will get to see Bronny in action during the Summer League. He’ll wear No. 9 for the Lakers.
