Dan Hurley emerged as a candidate to become head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers on June 6th. Beyond Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka, the Lakers’ interest in Hurley was kept tight-lipped. Hurley was offered a six-year, $70 million deal
According to The Athletic, several people inside the Lakers and externally wondered about the “true overall genuineness of the pursuit and whether the franchise had been used by Hurley to get more money to stay at Connecticut.”
Sources say Jeanie Buss was “highly motivated” for the Lakers to hire Hurley and was “genuinely disappointed” he didn’t accept their offer.
The Lakers eventually circled back to J.J. Redick, who was hired as head coach on Thursday.
