In this 2022-23 NBA season, we here at Lakers Outsiders will be providing a weekly gambling blog to our readers! Donny McHenry (@donny_mchenry) and Alex Torres (@alextorres_11) will both provide two bets each week, with each bet including our reasoning for why we like it. One bet will be related to a Lakers game, while the other one will be related to a random other NBA game going on that week.
We’re keeping our head above water with a combined 7-5 record with the hopes that our picks for the Lakers-Suns and other NBA games below can bolster us to a beautiful 11-5 record.
Donny’s Bets
Anthony Davis over 26.5 points (-105)
I’ll be honest, I wanted to go with the Suns’ spread here. But given the fact that is steep at -10 after the announcement that LeBron James will in fact miss his fifth straight game tonight, I’m going to stay away.
Instead, give me AD’s points total over 26.5. It’s pretty surprising to see it that low considering he’s scored over 30 points in his last three games, however, those were the Spurs, Pistons, and Nets. These are the Suns and DeAndre Ayton. It’ll definitely be tougher for AD to have 30+ point success against this team, but I don’t care. I’m rolling with the big dog as I expect him to take this matchup with Ayton personally, especially with LeBron remaining out.
Kings-Grizzlies over 234.5 total points (-110)
With my around-the-NBA pick, I’m taking the over on the lofty 234.5 point total set for the Kings and Grizzlies matchup in Memphis.
This one is pretty simple for me; The Kings score a lot of points and they give up a lot of points. Overs are 4-0-1 in the Kings’ last five games and with Ja Morant recently upgraded to questionable with murmurs that he will play after missing the team’s last game with an ankle sprain… I’ll take the over.
Donny’s record on the year: 3-3
Alex’s Bets
Suns moneyline & Devin Booker over 28.5 points parlay (+125) vs Lakers
It’s been a couple weeks since we gave out our picks, so I am giving you a two for one special. Now, before you accuse me of being negative, hear me out. First and foremost, the Lakers have not won a road game all season and the Suns are 8-1 at home. Also, the last time I went to an NBA game was last year in Phoenix where the Lakers lost by 29 and the Suns dropped 140. Am I scarred? Most definitely. Lastly, LeBron might not be back, so I am playing it safe and taking the Money Line aggressively.
So I feel pretty good about the Suns pick, but I also really like Booker with the points. Not only because he usually torches the Lakers and is averaging 27.6 for the year, but more importantly TMZ reports that Booker and Kendall Jenner are no longer a thing. The Kardashian curse is real and he was just liberated from it, he’s dropping 50 against the Lakers. BOOK IT.
Luka Doncic over on points total vs. Celtics (Wednesday game)
I am not surprised by anything that Luka Doncic does these days and in a game where he goes up against the best record in the East, he will be up for the challenge. The Celtics do have some really talented and athletic defenders to throw at him, but Luka will find a way. He leads the league in scoring with 33.5 per game, but only scored 22 in the Mavs’ previous game. Also, they lost that game, so we should see a motivated Luka as well. It’s a double whammy too because it’s against the Celtics. Go get em’ Luka!
Alex’s record on the year: 4-2
