The Los Angeles Lakers continue to be very interested in hiring UConn men’s basketball head coach Dan Hurley.
On Thursday morning, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers are targeting Hurley to be their next head coach and that they’re preparing a “massive” long-term offer for him.
Wojnarowski then updated his report before the NBA Finals got underway on Thursday evening, confirming that the Lakers are going to meet with Hurley in Los Angeles on Friday.
“Dan Hurley, I’m told, is on his way to meet with the Lakers tomorrow (Friday). He’ll sit down with (general manager and vice president) Rob Pelinka, and owner Jeanie Buss and they’ll start to dig into what a Hurley-Laker partnership would look like,” Wojnarowski said.

This would be a massive get for the Lakers if they’re able to close the deal on him. Hurley has led UConn to back-to-back national championships and is considered the best coach in college basketball.
He’s been at UConn for the last six seasons, compiling a 141-58 record. Before that, he had stints with Rhode Island and Wagner.
The Lakers are looking for a new head coach after firing Darvin Ham due to the team losing in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
