After a long break, Colin Cowherd returned to his show today to catch up on all of the sports news he missed while he was gone. He started with the Los Angeles Lakers’ decision to draft LeBron James’ son Bronny James.
On Wednesday’s edition of The Herd, Cowherd gave his thoughts on the decision. He made it clear that he takes no issue whatsoever, pointing out that LeBron has earned the right to get a “favor” from the Lakers and the NBA after decades of carrying the league to strong ratings.
“I take you the airport. You’re buying the next dinner… LeBron James has carried the NBA for 20 years,” Cowherd said.

Cowherd further made the case that it was a bad draft to begin with, so pretty much everyone who was taken in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft looks to him like a G-League prospect.
Ultimately, Cowherd declared that neither he nor anyone else should lose sleep over the Lakers’ decision to draft Bronny.
It’s not a bad take. The idea of give-and-get is accepted by pretty much everyone and it’s also worth pointing out that plenty of people are given things that they haven’t necessarily earned all the time.
Think of how many NFL team owners or company executives received their positions by inheriting the job from their parents, without necessarily having done as much work as their parents did to get the role in the first place.
If Bronny James can’t play well, he won’t last long in the NBA. But LeBron James had every right to pave the way for his son to get the chance.
