While there is no date for Cameron Brink’s return, she is beginning to participate in on-court activities.
There have been very few updates from the Sparks regarding Cameron Brink’s recovery from her ACL tear last season. After Tuesday’s practice, coach Lynne Roberts discussed Brink’s progress.
“There’s no date,” Roberts said. She’ll be cleared when she’s cleared.”
Reports during the offseason indicated that Brink was aiming for a return in June before the All-Star break. We are now in the early parts of June, so it’ll be interesting to see if she’s able to return later this month.
Roberts went on to state that Brink has been approaching her return to action very well.
“She’s kept a great mindset,” Roberts said. “She’s very engaged. She’s not off to the side. She’s engaged. She’s a huge part of this org and moving forward.”
While a return date has not been stated, Roberts confirmed that she has been doing on-court work.
“A little bit, yeah…Non-contact stuff,” Roberts said.
Despite Brink only playing in 15 games last year, she quickly established herself as a dominant defensive big with a bright future.
She started in all 15 games she participated in and averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Her defensive numbers were even more impressive. Brink was logging in 2.3 blocks and 1.7 steals per game.
Had she been able to maintain that level of play for a full season, she would’ve been one of the best rim protectors in the WNBA and a shoo-in for making the All-Rookie Team last season.
With Brink still recovering, she hasn’t spoken publicly about her injury much. However, she did give an update on her ACL during her appearance on “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” stating her ACL has been surgically repaired and just needs “a couple months to be back.”

“It’s all surgically repaired now … I’m good. It’s just going to take me a couple months to be back,” she said.

Overall, this is all good news for Brink and the Sparks. She has had no setbacks and while a date hasn’t been set on her return, on-court activity is a step in the right direction.
Next, she needs to be cleared for contact and participation in practice. The Sparks would greatly benefit from her return and once she’s back, we can really see how good this young L.A. core can be.
