LeBron and Bronny James have been father and son for two decades, but this year, they will share a bond they’ve never had before: teammates.
The Los Angeles Lakers drafted LeBron’s oldest son in the second round out of USC back in June. While it remains to be seen whether Bronny will be with the Lakers full-time or also spent time in the G League, he’s going to be spending plenty of hours on the job with his dad regardless. However, the soon-to-be 20-year-old is making sure his commute is LeBron-free.
On Tuesday, a reporter asked Bronny if he and his father would be carpooling to the team facility together.
“Definitely not,” he said as the room laughed. “There’s already so much that we’ve been through together. I’d like to stay as far away as possible from that guy.”
Hey, you can’t fault Bronny for setting some ground rules. His father already did that this summer when he said during an episode of “The Shop” on Uninterrupted that Bronny can’t call him “dad” at work.
“No, he can’t,” LeBron James said, via TMZ. “Cannot call me ‘dad’ in the workplace. Once we leave out the private facility and the gates close, I can be ‘dad’ again.
“In the car, if we ride together, at home, I could be ‘dad.’ No, he gotta call me like, ‘2-3’ or ‘Bron [on the court].”
The Lakers are scheduled to open up the preseason against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night in Los Angeles, with the regular season opener against that same ‘Wolves squad set for Oct. 22.
