Bronny James got a quick taste of NBA action on Tuesday night.
The rookie guard made history in his Los Angeles Lakers debut. When entering the game with his father, Bronny and LeBron became the NBA’s first father and son to ever play together. JJ Redick gave the No. 55 pick a brief spell off the bench late in the opening half of a 110-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
While the moment was one the James family and fans may never forget, Bronny’s stat line wasn’t too memorable. In three minutes, he went 0-for-2 from the floor with one rebound. The Lakers got outscored 7-2 during that stretch.
Bronny didn’t leave his short-lived debut empty-handed. The former McDonald’s All-American collected his first offensive rebound when nearly tipping in a missed three from Anthony Davis. However, four-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert contested his put-back attempt.
The fans roared in anticipation when LeBron later passed to his son and set up a screen, but Bronny fed the ball back to his All-NBA father to take an isolated jump shot.
Near the end of his stint, Bronny attempted a fairly open three on a LeBron pass. Unfortunately, the shot didn’t go down.
Of course, Bronny’s debut drew a bit more fanfare than the typical late second-round selection.
“I tried not to focus on everything that was going on around me and tried to focus on going in as a rookie and not trying to mess up,” Bronny said after the game, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “But yeah, I totally did feel the energy, and I appreciate the Laker Nation for showing the support for me and my dad.”
Meanwhile, LeBron registered 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the season-opening home triumph. Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 36 points and 16 boards.
