It’s been almost two months and it’s still hard to believes the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks in a blockbuster trade involving Anthony Davis.
While Davis was believed the be the person to usher in the new era of Lakers basketball after the retirement of LeBron James, acquiring a 26-year-old superstar in Doncic was not something the organization could pass up and everyone understood that.
The one thing Davis publicly questioned after the trade was whether or not James knew about it beforehand. LeBron and Davis were super close during their six-and-a-half seasons with the Lakers, but the former has mantained that he did not know about the trade and was just as surprised as everyone else.
Regardless, Davis recently revealed that him and James and still close and have exchanged some texts since the trade, via Marc J. Spears of Andscape:
“Ain’t no change for me. It’s a business. People are saying that [James] knew [of the trade] because of the Marcus Morris [quote saying James knew] that comes out. [James] is saying he don’t. At this point, whether he knew or not or whoever knew, or it was quiet when [ESPN’s] Shams (Charana) dropped [the news], it doesn’t matter who knew. This s— happened.
“You can’t change like, ‘Oh, [James] didn’t know, well let’s change it.’ It’s no going back. But as far as our relationship, obviously, we were on the same team, so we talked all the time. But [the Lakers] are trying to make a push, we’re trying to make a push, so we don’t talk as much. But we still check in on each other. He texts me all the time. [James’ chief of staff] Randy [Mims] hit me. Actually, they both just hit me. Vando [Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt] did. We still talk to those guys. I’ve been with [James] the longest, six-and-a-half years. We’ve been really close, but nothing has changed. Obviously, we don’t talk hang like we used to just because of the teams and stuff. But I’m sure we will get together over this summer and try to figure it out.”
It’s good to see that Davis and James remain close even though they are no longer teammates. Their relationship was refreshing to watch grow over the last half-decade and clearly goes beyond basketball at this point.

The Lakers are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Chicago Bulls on a half-court buzzer-beater by Josh Giddey. L.A. choked that game away and LeBron James was accountable for his role in that.
“I mean, we put ourselves in position to win. Gave up a lot of 3s in the fourth quarter, but still put ourselves in a position to win. Horrible turnover by myself. Bad miscommunication the play before that, but AR still hit a big bucket trying to save us and then you tip you hat when someone makes a game-winner from half-court.”
