Anthony Davis Opens up About Trade That Sent Him to Dallas

February 28, 2025 by The Sports Daily

Dallas Mavericks power forward, Anthony Davis (AD), recently opened up about the blockbuster deal. That being the trade that sent him to the Dallas Mavericks and Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. Like many fans and peers alike, Davis is still shocked by the deal weeks later and even talked about his relationship with LeBron James.

“When it happened, I honestly didn’t know s—,” Davis recalled this week. “He’s been my running mate for six years … so the first thing I wanted to do was call him. Obviously, I know there are going to be a lot of political things in the front office when they talk to me.

“The front office has to do what it has to do and obviously they’re going to do what’s best for the organization. So, I don’t know if I ever got the ‘real’ about any of it. I don’t know what’s true or what’s not, coming from upstairs. So, my thing is I’m gonna go to my counterpart who I’ve been running with and see what’s going on, get his reaction and that’s all it was. We had a conversation. That was it.

“Everybody’s saying nobody knew and all this other s—. I just don’t believe it. But, hey man, I’m past that. I’m ready to move forward with Dallas, try to get a championship there with these guys. First off, getting back on the floor and get ready to compete. All the emotions, that s— lasted that night when it was just a shock.”

“They wanted who they wanted. They did what they had to do,” Anthony Davis also said. “I don’t know if they had to, but it’s what they wanted to do. I moved on. I got a wife and kids to worry about, you know what I’m saying. And I’m figuring out how I’m going to get them to Dallas and get adjusted to that.

“It’s over with, and I’m moving on with my new team and what we got going on.”

The Dallas Mavericks are currently ninth place in the Western Conference standings. As for the Los Angeles Lakers, they are fifth in the West as of February 27th, 2025.

Anthony Davis Speaks On Blockbuster Luka Dončić Trade

AD’s Season Thus Far

Anthony Davis has had a solid campaign from an individual perspective. The injuries have limited him to only 43 games thus far this season. However, the 10-time All-Star has still been productive when healthy. Davis is currently averaging 25.7 points, 2.2 blocks, 1.3 steals, and 12.0 total rebounds per game. He has also been efficient. AD is currently tallying a field goal percentage of 52.8 percent and a player efficiency rating of 27.4, which is fourth best in the Association. Once healthy again, the Dallas Mavericks are hoping Anthony Davis can harness this type of production and provide some stability to their new makeup. Not to mention, they will be looking to move up in the standings and potentially get out of the Play-In Tournament picture. Something that will be easier said than done for Dallas.
