Many basketball fans might not have even been aware that Chicago Sky star Angel Reese had a brother, let alone one who played at a high level in college and was NBA-ready. But much like Angel, Julian “Juju” Reese is now officially a pro athlete at his sport’s highest level.
On Friday, the Maryland Terrapins basketball team announced that Reese has officially signed a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers to join their Summer League roster. He will have a chance to earn a spot in their training camp or receive a two-way contract with the team.
Naturally, Angel Reese had some kind words for her younger brother. Taking to X yesterday, Reese congratulated Julian on getting his opportunity to play in the NBA.
“OPPORTUNITY. COME ON JU,” she wrote.

Angel wasn’t the only one giving him props. Their mother also congratulated him on social media, as did a number of Maryland basketball fans.
“LFG!! JUJU Reese!! A #LAKERS !!! Pelinka cooking with this 1!!! Juju going to ball!! Junkyard DAWG!!! Baltimore Grit!! Love it!! 6-8, 6-9 long athletic! Rebounder, shot blocker etc,” one user wrote.
“Congrats to the young bull. He close to 6’10 defends, can be a double double machine, great effort, can do alot of things. Height & mobility is what the Lakers lack!” another said.
“Very well deserved!” a third wrote.
“I hope he gets some game time,” a fourth hoped.

Reese was no benchwarmer at the University of Maryland during his four years with the team. He started 102 of 134 games in four years, averaging 12.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game in his three seasons as a full-time starter.
He finished his career as just the second player in school history with over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds and ranks in the top 10 in numerous major categories.
During the 2024-25 college basketball season, Reese helped the Terps reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2016. The team went on to finish ranked No. 9 in the final AP poll.
We wish Reese all the best on his pro basketball career.
