Whether Jimmy Butler had the Golden State Warriors on his preferred trade destinations or not, he is now fully embracing the culture of the city. From the moment he got to the Warriors, Jimmy has been talking about how he is all about winning and wants to win at the highest level. Butler repeated his promise of a championship in a recent interview.
Jimmy Butler Promises a Championship to Warriors
The Golden State Warriors are 3-1 with Butler in the lineup. One area where he has helped the team is free throws. They are getting to the line more, thanks to Jimmy’s aggressive playstyle. Speaking with Virgin Radio Dubai, Jimmy Butler reinstated his goal to win a championship with the Warriors. Asked about how happy he is, he said,
“A chance to win a championship, what more can you ask for? Whenever I get the trophy and my ring, I am coming back here.”
In the same interview, he also talked about how he has a new level of respect for the Warriors players, namely Draymond Green. He said,
“You do not realize how great he is until you actually get on his team and how smart and how he will do anything to win. I respect that the most of anything. It is all about winning, all the time with that dude, and I am learning.”
Jimmy and Draymond are On the Same Page
One thing is clear: the Warriors have gotten their swagger back. It’s been a while since they talked about a championship with such confidence. During the All-Star weekend, Green promised a championship to the Warriors fans this season. Speaking about Butler, he said,
“It’s been incredible, he has brought a purpose back to this organization. I think we were kind of heading in the wrong direction. Since he has been here, we have walked into every game, thinking and believing we will win that game. He has brought back that belief. I think we are going to win the championship. We are going to win a championship this season.”
One of the reasons why Green believes they can win a championship is because the West is wide open. To be fair, the Oklahoma City Thunder look head and shoulders above everyone else, but Draymond is not afraid. He said,
“I don’t really believe that these teams are that great. Boston, yes, you have to go through the champion… But none of these teams scare me. I don’t see any team, that, oh, that is the team that is going to win. And you are going to start seeing that team, it is the Warriors.”
Two Crucial Games Ahead
The Warriors got plenty of rest thanks to the All-Star weekend. They do not play until February 21st, but that is when they have a crucial back-to-back set. On Friday, they play in Sacramento against the Kings, and then they welcome the Mavericks on Saturday. The Warriors are tied with the Kings in the loss column and have one more loss than the Mavericks.
To improve their chances of competing, they need to climb up the standings. As of February 19th, the Warriors are the 10th seed. Coach Steve Kerr talked about how their goal is to get to the sixth seed before the playoffs start. That quest starts with a crucial back-to-back against the Kings and Mavericks.
They do have one of the easiest schedules going forward, with games against lottery teams like the Hornets (two games), the Nets, the Raptors, the Pelicans, the Blazers, and the Spurs (two games).
