The Clippers needed a spark to have a chance this season, Saturday, as they probably did.
James Harden was unbeatable on Saturday on the road against the Hornets.
Harden set a Clippers new franchise record in points in a single game.
Clipper legends Charles Smith and Bob McAdoo held the Clippers franchise record for the most points in a single game at 52.
Harden had 35 points in the first, and 17 points in the 2nd half to set a new Clippers franchise record in points in a single game by a Clipper player.
Though Clippers fans haven’t had much to cheer for so far this season, what Harden did on Saturday probably set the tone and helped build momentum for the team going forward. Harden made 10 three-pointers and added seven assists on a historic day for him.
Harden had 27 points already by the end of the first quarter, tying Lou Williams for the most points in a quarter ever by a Clipper. Harden’s historic day finished with 55 points on 17-for-26 from the field, 10-for-16 from three, and 11-for-14 from the foul line.
James Harden to reporters after he set a new Clippers franchise record for most points in a single game.
“Basketball is life.”
The 17-year vet recorded just his 25th career 50-point game, though, all the focus is on the court and helping the team out in any way possible. With the early struggles the Clippers have been dealing with, including Kawhi’s recent injury, the Clippers need to rely on Harden more to carry the team.
So far this season, Harden has been averaging 26.5 points, 8.6 assists, and 6.2 rebounds per game. The win for the Clippers is a major boost the team needed to get back on the right track and be a playoff team.
The Clippers face the Lakers on Nov. 25th for their third NBA Cup game this season.
Both teams are undefeated in NBA Cup group play so far, and this game will have a “playoff” type atmosphere.
