Shohei Ohtani’s status going forward in the World Series will be the biggest question as the Dodgers take their 2–0 series lead to New York.
Ohtani took off for second base in the seventh inning attempting to steal second base. He was caught stealing and sustained a shoulder injury when he slid into the base.
“He had a little left shoulder subluxation,” said manager Dave Roberts. “We’re going to get some tests at some point tonight or tomorrow and then we’ll know more in the next couple of days.”
The training staff and Roberts attended to Ohtani at second base, who remained on the ground holding his left arm in between innings. He was assisted back to the dugout.
When Ohtani went into the clubhouse, the training staff tested the strength and range of motion in his left arm, leaving hopeful results.
“The strength was great. The range of motion good. So, we’re encouraged,” Roberts said. “I can’t speculate because we don’t get the scans yet. So, once we get the scans, we’ll know more. Again, with the strength and the range of motion good, that’s certainly a positive.”
The injury was a hold-your-breath moment for his teammates.
“When you see him come off the field with the trainer holding his arm, obviously there’s a level of concern,” Freddie Freeman said. “We’ll see how it is in the next couple of days. But when you have a group like this, they’ve picked me up when I’ve down, we’ll try to do the same for him.”
