Dodgers pitchers and catchers officially report to spring training camp on Monday, though several players have already showed up to Camelback Ranch. The first workout is Tuesday.
This begins the long trek of the baseball season. Last year, the official journey lasted … days, from reporting day in Arizona to the final out of the World Series at Yankee Stadium.
Today’s question is simple one: What is your favorite spring training story?
Take this in any direction you want. It can be an in-person experience, something you read about or saw on television, or even a classic tale that was passed along to you.
I think mine goes back to Palm Springs, when the Angels used to have at least part of their spring training in a stadium that shared a very small parking lot with the library. The stadium was also just down the block from my high school, which made ditching class to go see a baseball game all too inviting.
One day I ditched to go watch the Angels play, and as my made my way to a seat in the temporary outfield stands that were added to accomodate larger spring training crowds, I bumped into my friend Steve, who had also ditched class separately. It was a fun, unplanned coincidence.
