Ohtani stretched out to three innings on the mound, and led the offense in most categories. LA saw its losing streak stretch to seven games before winning the final two in San Francisco to salvage the week.
The Dodgers played a lot of bad baseball in the final 10 days before the All-Star break, including a seven-game losing streak through Friday. Lack of offense was the main problem, scoring two or fewer runs in six of eight games through Saturday, then needing extra innings to surpass two runs on Sunday.
But as far as 2-4 weeks go, the Dodgers ended this one on a relative high note, winning their last two over the Giants, keeping the Dodgers undefeated in series against the National League West this season. The Dodgers are 7-0-1 in series within the division this year and 19-7 in games against their NL West foes, the best record within a team’s own division in baseball.
The Dodgers did get some good news during a rough week, as Tyler Glasnow returned to the rotation on solid fashion and both Blake Snell and Blake Treinen began minor league rehab assignments. Roki Sasaki also started pitching bullpen sessions, beginning his road back for a potential late August return.
Batter of the week
Shohei Ohtani led the team in runs, hits, RBI, and walks while also hitting half of the team’s four home runs.
Honorable mention to Miguel Rojas, who homered and doubled and led the team in OPS but had fewer than half of Ohtani’s plate appearances.
Pitcher of the week
Tyler Glasnow was solid in his return from the injured list, and Clayton Kershaw held his own with six innings on Tuesday in Milwaukee. But Shohei Ohtani was so dominant during his three scoreless innings with four strikeouts that he made Joe Davis whoop on the SportsNet LA call.

Ohtani is the first player in my 17 seasons of doing these weekly reports (424 of them to date) to win both batter of the week and pitcher of the week. Clayton Kershaw came the closest in Week 4 of 2016, winning batter of the week but losing out to Alex Wood on the pitching side.
Honorable mention goes to Alex Vesia, who struck out six in 3⅔ scoreless innings. The left-hander has been the steadiest Dodgers reliever this season, leading the bullpen in appearances and strikeouts with a 36.4 strikeout rate to boot.
