Muncy carried over his home run and RBI barrage from the weekend prior, and Wrobleski won both of his games on the road in Colorado and Kansas City.
The Dodgers took care of business away from home against a pair of teams with losing records, those records made worse by Los Angeles winning five of six on the road trip to widen their lead in the National League West.
First up was the Dodgers’ second sweep of the Rockies in as many tries this season, made even more impressive by the trio of Justin Wrobleski, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Clayton Kershaw allowing only three combined runs in 16 innings in their games in the high altitude in Denver, with 18 strikeouts. Yamamoto almost certainly would have continued after his five scoreless innings on Wednesday were it not for an 87-minute rain delay, the first of two weather interruptions on the trip.
The Dodgers finished off the road trip by taking two of three over the weekend against the Royals, a playoff team last year but struggling this year.
Batter of the week
Max Muncy put together two solid months of production after not homering until the final game of April. He drove in 10 runs on the road trip and hit home runs in each series, leading the Dodgers in hits, runs scored, and RBI for the week. Wednesday’s grand slam in Denver was the eighth of Muncy’s career, matching Mike Piazza for the most in Los Angeles Dodgers history. Counting the Brooklyn Dodgers, Gil Hodges (14) is the only player in franchise lore with more slams.
Pitcher of the week
The Dodgers stuck with Justin Wrobleski after a string of effective bulk outings, and this week it paid off with two strong appearances following an opener, both wins. The left-hander allowed two runs and set a career high with seven strikeouts Tuesday at Coors Field, then struck out six more in six scoreless innings Sunday in Kansas City.

Miscellany
Freddie in 4K: It’s been a rough month for Freddie Freeman, who went nearly seven full weeks without a home run, the longest dry spell of his career. But he reached base five times on Saturday with three hits and two walks, and snapped that power drought with a solo home run. The long ball gave Freeman 4,003 career total bases, more than any other active player and the 91st person in major league history to amass 4,000 total bases.
Designated starter: Shohei Ohtani was voted by fans to start at designated hitter for the National League in the All-Star Game, his fifth straight start in the midsummer classic. We’ll find out this week which Dodgers will join him on the All-Star roster.
Defensive play of the week: Freeman on Friday saved a game-ending double play with a snow-cone scoop of a bounced Mookie Betts throw at first base in the ninth inning, preventing at least the tying run and possibly even the winning run from scoring for Kansas City. “Freddie does a really good job over there,” Betts told David Vassegh on SportsNet LA after the game. “All I gotta do is get it into the vicinity, and he’ll always catch it.”
