Tyler Glasnow rejoins Dodgers rotation

July 9, 2025 by True Blue LA

Dodgers vs Mets in Los Angeles, CA

Glasnow starts the series finale in Milwaukee, his first game for the Dodgers since leaving his April 27 start with shoulder inflammation.

The Dodgers are getting Tyler Glasnow back to start on Wednesday, after the right-hander was sidelined for over 10 weeks with right shoulder inflammation. He’ll provide an infusion of strikeouts for a pitching staff that has been missing out on missing bats over the last few months.

Glasnow has made five starts this season, and Wednesday will be his 28th start with the Dodgers roughly 1.6 seasons into his five-year deal. When he’s on the mound, the right-hander is usually one of the best pitchers in the game, his 4.50 ERA in 18 innings this year notwithstanding.

Even with that 4.50 ERA, which was blown up by a terrible inning in the rain in Philadelphia, Glasnow has been effective, striking out 29.9 percent of his batters faced, right in line with his 32.2-percent strikeout rate last year and 33.4-percent rate in 2023.

Prior to Wednesday, Glasnow’s last start was April 27. In the 65 games since, the team has a 21.5-percent strikeout rate which ranks 15th in the majors, right in the middle of the pack.

Through the Dodgers’ first 28 games of the season, five of which were started by Glasnow, the team’s 25.9-percent strikeout rate led the majors.

“Full strength” is an unrealistic idea for many pitching staffs and especially so for the Dodgers. But Glasnow is a foundational piece of the group, and getting him back gets them closer to the ideal.

As for Glasnow’s first start back, it’s unclear just how deep he will go into the series finale against the Brewers. He topped out at 4⅓ innings and 78 pitches last Thursday, with eight strikeouts.

But the Dodgers will have Ben Casparius back in his bulk relief role if needed, “back online” as manager Dave Roberts told reporters Tuesday night in Milwaukee, after four days rest.
