Last offseason, the Toronto Blue Jays traded Teoscar Hernández to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Erik Swanson, and Adam Macko. Hernández had a great 2023 season with the Mariners. With one regular season game remaining, Seattle was eliminated from postseason contention despite playing well all season. Hernández then became a free agent after the season ended. His signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers was reported today, for one year and $23.5 million, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan. $8.5 million of that deal will be deferred and paid out from 2030 to 2039. In his eight-year career, Hernández has won two Silver Slugger Awards, one in 2020 and the other in 2021. He’s a prominent hitter in the prime of his career at 32 years of age. Teoscar Hernández will certainly be looking to make an impact from the get-go with the Dodgers in 2024.
BREAKING: Outfielder Teoscar Hernández and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a one-year, $23.5 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Hernández joins Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow on the new-look Dodgers, who add another All-Star bat to the lineup.

Teoscar Hernández Just Signed with the Dodgers
During the 2023 season, Hernández struggled against curveballs in two-strike scenarios. Against the curveball, he had a batting average of .161 and a strikeout percentage of nearly 48 percent. Hernández also struggled against cutters and sweepers in two-strike scenarios. Although fastballs were one of his best pitches to hit, having 77 hits and 16 homers off the pitch, he still had a strikeout percentage of 36 percent. Hernández had more opposite-field singles than pull hits to left field but had more pulled home runs than opposite-field homers.
Hernández’s 2023 Stats
Last season, Hernández played in 160 games. In 625 at-bats, he recorded 161 hits, 26 home runs, 93 runs batted in, and seven stolen bases with a .258 batting average. He had a slugging percentage of .435 with an on-base percentage of .305. His best game of the season was on August 26th against the Kansas City Royals. The two-time Silver Slugger recorded two hits in five at-bats. Six runs were batted in during a 15-2 win thanks to Teoscar’s two home runs. During the month of August, Hernández collected seven home runs and 22 runs batted in. He’ll be looking to produce the same way with Los Angeles next season.
