In Dodgers minor league action, we have Jaron Elkins grandly heating up, Blake Treinen toying with minor leaguers, and a second speedy Dodger outfielder hitting the 50 steals mark.

Player of the day

Maddux Bruns has struggled mightily since returning to action at the end of May. He has given up 19 earned runs in 18 innings for the Great Lakes Loons after giving up 13 earned runs in six innings in the Rookie League. The 30th-ranked Dodgers prospect by MLB Pipeline is trending downwards. On the good side, on Tuesday Bruns pitched four innings for the first time this season. In this game, Bruns walked the first two hitters, gave up a single to the third, and all three ultimately scored, putting the Loons quickly down 3-0.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Comets defeated the Reno Aces (Diamondbacks) 9-3. The keystone combo of Austin Gauthier and Noah Miller went seven for nine, as part of a sixteen-hit attack. Ryan Ward hit his 27th home run.

Can’t say you don’t expect it at this point ‍♂️

Kyle Funkhouser pitched the bulk innings and gave up two runs in five innings after Garrett McDaniels opened. Blake Treinen followed with a perfect inning, striking out two. Treinen has made six total rehab appearances, giving up only one hit and one walk against nine strikeouts in six innings. Look for him in Thursday’s game as well, as the Dodgers want Treinen to pitch on consecutive days before recalling him.

Double-A Tulsa

The Tulsa Drillers scored no runs, made three errors, got picked off first base, and hoped for better days as they lost 4-0 to the Springfield Cardinals.

High-A Great Lakes

Logan Wagner doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Loons defeated the Beloit Sky Carp (Marlins) 6-5. Bruns started for the Loons and gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits in four innings. Christian Romero relieved Bruns and finished the game, pitching six almost-perfect innings, giving up no runs on just one hit and no walks. This allowed the Loons to make a comeback. Down 5-0, the Loons scored four runs in the sixth inning to get within a run. The big hit was a three-run double by Cameron Decker. They tied the score in the seventh when Kendall George singled, stole second and third, and scored on a Jordan Thompson single. That set up Wagner for the walk-off hit in the bottom of the tenth inning. George stole three bases and now has 51 on the year, achieving the milestone one day after Jaron Elkins hit 50 stolen bases for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga.

Josue De Paula sustained some kind of knee injury while running the bases, and was removed from the game.

Low-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes scored six runs in the second inning, then held on for a 7-4 win over the Visalia Rawhide (Diamondbacks). Jaron Elkins had his second straight three-hit game, including a grand slam home run. Marlon Nieves made his first start in full-season ball and did well, giving up two runs on two hits in five innings, striking out seven.

Wednesday scores

  • Oklahoma City 9, Reno 3
  • Springfield 4, Tulsa 0

  • Rancho Cucamonga 7, Visalia 4
