Top 10 moments in the 2025 World Series fans were talking about on social media

November 3, 2025 by Los Angeles Daily News

Regardless of which team you were rooting for, the 2025 World Series is one that will be talked about for years to come. Both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays played legendary games that had big moments that fans and viewers alike couldn’t get enough of on social media.

Here are some of the top moments throughout all seven games that people were talking about on social media.

Game 3 ties the record for most innings in a World Series

It was the game that just didn’t seem to end. The Dodgers were up by two, then the Blue Jays scored four runs in the fourth, the Dodgers tied it 4-4 in the fifth, and then both teams scored a point in the 7th. And then for 10 innings, no one scored.

Until finally, at the end of the 18th Inning, Freddie Freeman hit a home run at Dodger Stadium, leading the home team crowd to erupt. 6 hours and 39 minutes later, the Dodgers had won Game 3, which was just shy of midnight for fans watching the game from Los Angeles, and around 3 a.m. for those on the East Coast.

Game 3 ties the record for most innings in a World Series, and coincidentally, the other record holder was another Game 3 at Dodger Stadium, where the Dodgers beat the RedSox. Another coincidence? Brad Paisley sang the National Anthem ahead of both games.

Dodgers organist becomes a hit

As Game 3 kept going, the Dodgers organist, Dieter Ruehle, became a bit of a jokester with his song choices. Fans online couldn’t get enough of his comedically timed performances of Coldplay’s “Clocks” and Billy Joel’s “The Longest Time,” but it was Limahl’s “Never Ending Story” that really took the cake with viewers on social media.

The Dodgers Dugout Fruit Platter

With a game lasting 18 innings, it’s not a huge surprise that the game’s commentators might run out of facts to share in the downtown. Enter a new hero, the fruit platter in the Dodgers’ dugout. The fruit tray first gained attention during the 16th inning as it was being handed out to players as a snack while they waited to play. The fruit tray made a second cameo at the top of the 18th, which delighted viewers online.

The moment resonated with fans, as it felt similar to Little League games, where parents bring fruit slices for the players. It even became a last-minute, niche Halloween costume for some.

Shohei Ohtani shatters MLB postseason record

Also in Game 3, Ohtani blasted two home runs, added two doubles, and was intentionally walked five times, reaching base a staggering nine times in the game. Ohtani became the first player ever with multiple 12-total-base games in a single postseason. After the 18-inning game, Ohtani joked with Fox Sports’ Tom Verducci through an interpreter: “I want to go to sleep as soon as possible. So I can get ready.”

A user posted a photo on Instagram of a sleepy Charles Barkley and said, “How everyone looks now after watching Game 3.”

Lodged ball during Game 6

In an unexpected turn of events, Addison Barger’s hit in the bottom of the ninth during Game 6 got wedged between the wall and the ground. Dodgers center fielder Justin Dean threw his hands up in the air, and the umpires deemed it a dead ball. Viewers were impressed by Dean’s instincts and knowledge of the rules not to try and grab the ball. The moment was all the more notable as Dean had just entered the game as a defensive replacement minutes before.

While it was a controversial call for some, many online viewers turned the moment into a meme. “How my kids look at me when I ask who left this cup here,” shared one user with the photo of Dean with his hands in the air and the ball wedged next to him. “Me when an email comes in after 4pm on a Friday,” said another user.

Ernie Clement gets bonus points for style

Blue Jays third baseman had a few moments online that connected with viewers. He was caught with his finger crossed, hoping for a positive outcome for his team in the dugout, which some compared to a moment from a 90s sitcom.

But it was is stylish slide to home base that became the talk of the town online, with some saying the baseball player needed to be on the next season of Dancing with the Stars.

“ERNIE CLEMENT YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS,” said one user.

Bench-clearing dispute during Game 7

It’s safe to say that tensions were high during Game 7. With the Blue Jays at bat, Justin Wrobleski, who was pitching for the Dodgers, hit Andrés Giménez on the wrist. What followed was the benches clearing as players erupted onto the field, including those in the bullpen. While the dispute only resulted in a heated exchange and some shoving, it was enough for both teams to receive an official warning from umpires.

A split-second photo finish

Bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, one out, a tied game and a split second could have changed the entire outcome of the World Series. After just tying the game at the top of the 9th for the Dodgers, they made a game-saving play in the bottom of the ninth by catching the ball and throwing it to catcher Will Smith, who was waiting at home plate. The Blue Jays’ Isiah Kiner-Falefa was making his run from third to home, where Smith’s cleat managed to return the plate a second before Kiner-Falefa made it there.

A snapshot, frozen in time. A symbolic image of just how tight a finish the World Series victory was.

LA loves a sequel

Nike’s end of the World Series commercials have become fan favorites. In 2024, the “end credits” sequence had Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” as its soundtrack. However, for 2025, the editors had a little fun with the Dodgers’ back to back wins. The commercial finished where we left off, “The Storybook season. It was always about winning.” with the Nike symbol at the bottom, before the tape rewinds, the font changes to blue and the music switches to Kendrick Lamar’s “Squabble Up.”

The song choice was particularly fitting, as many had been comparing the 2025 World Series teams to another LA vs Canada feud, Lamar vs Drake. The two spent 2024 in a diss-track battle, with Los Angeles native Lamar’s “Not Like Us” becoming an unofficial anthem for the City of Angels.

At the end of the credits, the tagline “LA Loves a Sequel” took the screen, which Angelenos couldn’t get enough of. Many requested that Nike drop the slogan as merch in addition to the World Series Champion apparel that had dropped after the game.

Blue Jays fan finishes knitting her World Series sweater

On Oct. 9, Blue Jays fan and knitter Karla Courtney began documenting her journey online of crafting a Blue Jays sweater, in the hopes her team would have a good run and she would have an “epic sweater.”

The sweater began to rope fans in on social media, and gained even more attention online after a side-by-side comparison of Dodgers fans watching the game and her knitting at a Toronto watch party at Rogers Centre was broadcast for the world to see.

The conversation online turned to if she would have enough time to finish the sweater. With the series going to Game 7, she saved 9 rounds of the sleeve to finish each inning, not anticipating the game would go into extra innings. While it wasn’t the outcome she wanted, it did create a memorable experience for fans online.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s MVP Trophy leads to another team moment

“Yamamoto’s the GOAT!” shouted Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts, before the rest of the players chimed in, chanting for the pitcher before he was named the MVP of the 2025 World Series. After Mookie Betts nudged Yamamoto to pick up his MVP Trophy to celebrate the accomplishment, Yamamoto’s arms appeared to be too tired to lift the trophy above his head from pitching the winning game. So the Dodgers did what they do best, they worked as a team and Kike’ Hernandez helped Yamaoto raise the trophy and celebrate his career milestone.

“Yamamoto got too tired carrying the team on his shoulder to hoist that trophy at the end,” said one fan online.
