Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers Tony Gonsolin and Evan Phillips are scheduled to pitch in rehab appearances tomorrow at Triple-A Oklahoma City, per Alex Freedman, the broadcaster for the OKC Comets. Gonsolin will get the start and pitch two innings, while Phillips will come in from the bullpen. It is unclear how many outings each will need before they rejoin the major league roster.

Dodgers Pitchers Tony Gonsolin, Evan Phillips to Make Triple-A Rehab Appearances
Unexpected Detours
Tony Gonsolin was nothing short of spectacular in 2022. His record of 16-1 and ERA of 2.14 would earn his first All-Star appearance. 2023 ended with him under the knife. He missed all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery. Gonsolin was coming off an impressive spring training this year, where he appeared to have locked down the five spot in a deep Dodgers rotation.
Making the Most of It
Unfortunately, the right-hander tweaked his back lifting weights a week before the Dodgers played in Japan. As a result, the final spot in the rotation was given to Dustin May. In his first start in over two years, May threw five innings, striking out six, walking three, and allowing no earned runs. Not too shabby for a pitcher that had to undergo a second Tommy John surgery. Shortly before May was due to return, he suffered an emergency esophageal injury that had to be repaired.
Is Captain Phillips Coming Back?
One-time Dodgers closer Evan Phillips is recovering from a shoulder injury. Consequently, it kept him off the World Series roster last season. Formerly, Phillips was a reliable arm in the bullpen for the first half of 2024. However, his ERA ballooned to an ERA over five as the year progressed. The ailing shoulder may be a plausible explanation. However, manager Dave Roberts has been impressed with Phillips’ bullpen sessions, saying that the right-hander’s stuff is back.
The Dodgers are off to an impressive start in 2o25. And it appears that their incredible depth is only getting deeper.
