The Dodgers have fallen out of first place again after losing 5–1 to the Padres in San Diego on Saturday.
The Dodgers have produced just two runs in this series from Alex Freeland solo home runs in each game. And the Dodgers have lost both games.
“It’s just about getting the job done and finding a way to get some production, and it might look ugly,” Dave Roberts said about the lack of offense. “We got a kid who comes up and he’s responsible for two of our runs this series. This is just fight and hunger from a kid who’s trying to stick.”

Dodger batters were 1-for-19 against Nestor Cortes with three strikeouts. Miguel Rojas broke up Cortes’ perfect game in the sixth inning with a one-out single.
The farthest hit ball against Cortes coincidentally came from Freddie Freeman, who hit a fly ball 399 feet to center field in the second. Freeman hit a walk-off grand slam against Cortes in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series.
The Dodgers didn’t have a single at-bat with runners in scoring position on Saturday. They had only two on Friday in a 2–1 loss.
During the first two games at Dodger Stadium last week, the Dodgers had nine runs on nine hits.
The Dodgers have been outscored 7–2 in this series in San Diego.
Tyler Glasnow’s four innings against the Padres on Saturday matched the fewest he’s pitched in an outing since he returned from the injured list on July 9. His command began to falter in the third with two walks in the inning. By the fourth, it spelled trouble for the right-hander.
“I just kind of lost feel, timing (and my) release point,” Glasnow said. “I think my spray just kind of went everywhere. Timing or something just felt off.”
The right-hander was effective through his first two innings. He retired his first six batters on 27 pitches.
Walks became an issue in the third, but he worked around them with a strikeout, fly out and ground ball. In the fourth, the first three batters reached base on two walks and a single. A one-out double by Ramón Laureano and a sacrifice fly by Jake Cronenworth brought in three runs against Glasnow.
The Padres scored another two runs against reliever Justin Wrobleski in the eighth.
