Those old enough to remember knew him as “The Maytag Man – the Loneliest Man in Town.” His real name was Jesse White and we saw him almost daily/nightly in television commercials from 1967 through 1988 portraying a lonely Maytag repairman who was never called because of the reliability of Maytag’s home appliances.

Move over, Jesse, there’s a new Maytag Man in town – 26-year-old Dodgers left-hander Jack Dreyer (not dryer), affectionately called “Maytag” by his teammates (get it?).
During Tuesday night’s 6-2 pounding of the Colorado Rockies by manager Dave Roberts‘ Dodgers in front of another sold out Dodger Stadium crowd (53,198) on Jackie Robinson Day, Dreyer faced six Rockies batters, striking out four of them, while allowing no runs or hits in his 1.2 innings of relief of 27-year-old Dodgers starting right-hander Landon Knack.

“I think early on, he just, I use that word unflappable a little bit, he just seems unflappable,” Roberts said of Dreyer postgame. “He’s really… he’s an intellect, very well read, he’s just very calm, he studies, guys love him, and there’s no situation they I’ve seen so far that’s too big for him. Yeah, he’s just got good stuff, he commands the baseball. the fastball, the breaking ball, and he’s been really helpful,” Roberts added.
On the other side of the ball, Dodgers catcher Will Smith slugged his second home run of the season, a well-timed 370-foot three run shot into the Left Field Pavilion in the bottom of the fourth inning to give his team a then 4-0 lead.

Popular Dodgers utility infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman also had a night on Tuesday, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two singles.
