The Dodgers were on the losing end of a 5–4 game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday at Dodger Stadium.
Los Angeles had 10 hits and 10 walks in the series finale. But the Dodgers went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 16 baserunners stranded.
The Dodgers had the bases loaded in the eighth and ninth innings and came away with just one run. Now the Dodgers have a two-game lead in the National League West.
“We gave ourselves opportunities (to win),” said Dave Roberts. “Taking walks, creating stress by building innings, but we couldn’t get that hit in the different opportunities we had to put this game out of reach.”
Three walks and a sacrifice bunt in the ninth put the Dodgers in a position to strike late. But a Shohei Ohtani strikeout and Mookie Betts groundout with the bases loaded ended their momentum.
It was their third bases-loaded situation of the game.
“Creating the opportunities is probably the most positive thing you can take away from a day like today,” Max Muncy said. “It’s frustrating. We had a chance to score a lot more runs. But when you create those opportunities, you’re doing something good as an offense, you just have to finish the job.”
Ohtani and Freddie Freeman accounted for the Dodgers’ run production on Sunday.

Ohtani’s leadoff homer was his 11th of the season. He is one shy of tying Mookie Betts’ Dodger record with 12 in 2023. Freeman added to the lead with a homer in the first and a bases-loaded walk in the second. He also tied the score in the eighth inning 4–4 with a second bases-loaded walk.
Tyler Glasnow was pushed to 35 pitches by the end of the second inning. He had three walks and two strikeouts against Toronto’s first 10 batters. They had two doubles and a run against him.
Glasnow faced the minimum over the next three innings with 41 pitches. The Blue Jays scored a run on two singles against him in the sixth. He finished with eight strikeouts, four walks and four hits and the two earned runs.

The Blue Jays took a 4–3 lead in the eighth with two home runs against reliever Blake Treinen. This was the right-hander’s fifth relief appearance since returning from the injured list on July 27.
He has allowed eight hits and three earned runs in 3 2/3 innings since then.
“It’s good swings and you give good hitters good pitches right down the middle, they’re going to do damage,” Treinen said. “Sometimes we get away with bad location turning into outs, (but) they made me pay for it.”
Alex Vesia surrendered a go-ahead homer to Ernie Clement in the ninth.
The Dodgers took two out three from Toronto in the series. But the Padres did the same to Boston.
The Dodgers now head to Anaheim for a three-game series with the Angels beginning on Monday.
