The Dodgers brought back their cleanup hitter, re-signing free agent Teoscar Hernández to a three-year, $66 million contract that was finalized on January 3, 2025.
Hernández’s first season in Los Angeles was a rousing success, starting the All-Star Game, winning the Home Run Derby, and winning a Sliver Slugger Award while helping the Dodgers to a championship. He hit .272/.339/.501 with a 134 wRC+, and led all National League outfielders with both 33 home runs and 99 RBI.
The outfielder kept that up during the postseason, driving in 12 runs in 16 October games, and hit .350/.381/.550 with a home run and double during the World Series.
After signing a one-year, $23.5 million contract with the Dodgers the first time around, Hernández at the team’s championship celebration at Dodger Stadium on November 1 made clear his desire to return to Los Angeles.
“I was going to do everything in my power to come back. For me, money wasn’t an issue,” Hernández said during his introductory press conference. “I could’ve gotten five or six more mil from other teams, but if you put me in a place where I had to decide, I would decide to come back because of the way this organization is.”
With his new contract, Hernández gets a $23 million signing bonus plus salaries of $10 million in 2025, $12 million in 2026, and $14.5 million in 2027. A total of $23.5 million of those 2025-27 salaries are deferred.
The Dodgers hold a club option in 2028 worth $15 million, with a $6.5 million buyout.
