The door is now closed on a return this season for Gavin Stone — one of the Dodgers’ biggest pitching contributors of the season.
However, the Dodgers have added an intriguing arm.
Edgardo Henriquez — a triple-digit-throwing relief pitcher — had his contract selected and is now on the 40-man and active roster. The Dodgers moved Stone to the 60-day injured list to make room for Henriquez on the 40-man roster.
Right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius was also optioned to make room for Henriquez on the active roster.
Stone went on the injured list Sept. 6 with right shoulder inflammation. He went 11–5 with a 3.53 ERA in 25 starts this season. He set career-highs in innings pitched (140 1/3), starts, strikeouts (118) and wins in what was a breakout season for the second-year Major Leaguer. Stone still carried rookie status this season after logging 31 innings in 2023. He will end up leading Dodger pitchers in innings pitched, starts and wins this season. He threw the club’s only complete-game shutout on June 26 against the Chicago White Sox.
Henriquez, 22, began the season in Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and has now been promoted four times this season — to High-A Great Lakes, to Double-A Tulsa, to Triple-A Oklahoma City and now the Majors.
The right-hander appeared in 43 games (53 innings) and had a 2.72 ERA and 1.23 WHIP, striking out 88 batters to 29 walks. Opponents batted .189/.311/.288/.599 against him. He is the №15 prospect in the Dodger farm system, according to MLB.com with scouting grades of 70 on his fastball and slider on the 20–80 scouting scale.
Stone’s season ends, but right-hander Henriquez’s Major League one begins was originally published in Dodger Insider on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
