Both pitching Blakes have been sidelined on the injured list since April.
The Dodgers could be getting back a few of their injured pitchers back in short order. Blake Snell and reliever Blake Treinen each faced hitters at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, and are expected to begin minor league rehab assignments in the coming week, manager Dave Roberts said Saturday.
Snell and Treinen also faced hitters on Wednesday in Los Angeles, which was the first time doing so for each since getting sidelined. Snell has been on the injured list since April 6 with left shoulder inflammation, while Treinen has been out of action since April 19 with right forearm tightness.
Both are on the 60-day injured list.
Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register has more on the coming machinations:
“It feels good,” Roberts said about key pieces of the rotation about to return. “You know, we’re still not there yet, but I think we can see a little squint of light. It’s taken a little longer than we’ve all expected or hoped for, and as far as getting our guys together. So we haven’t gotten there yet, but we’re hopeful and excited.”
Snell and Treinen inching closer to a return is in addition to potentially getting Tyler Glasnow back in the rotation this week after his three rehab starts in Triple-A.
The 13 pitchers on the Dodgers active roster for the domestic home opener on March 27 have accounted for just 65.5 percent of the team’s total innings this year. That group of pitchers, of which Glasnow, Snell, and Treinen are included, have a combined 3.77 ERA and 15.3-percent strikeout-minus-walk rate. The other 21 pitchers used this season have combined for a 5.36 ERA and 11.7 strikeout-minus-walk rate.
Veteran reliever Luis García, who was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on June 29, cleared waivers and was released on Friday. The 38-year-old veteran in his 13th major league season had a 5.27 ERA with 24 strikeouts and 12 unintentional walks in his 27⅓ innings. His 28 games pitched led the Dodgers for the games in which he was active this season.
