The Dodgers’ six-game homestand from July 18 to 23 against the Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins represented a touch of nostalgia alongside modern-day history.
On July 18, former third baseman Ron Cey, a six-time All-Star who hit 228 home runs with Los Angeles from 1971 to 1982, became the newest Legend of Dodger Baseball.
Cey joined previous honorees Don Newcombe (2019), Steve Garvey (2019), Fernando Valenzuela (2019), Maury Wills (2022), Kirk Gibson (2022), Orel Hershiser (2023), Manny Mota (2024) and Dusty Baker (2024).
On July 19, the Dodgers honored the memory of Valenzuela, the former pitcher and broadcaster who passed away in 2023. In addition to a Valenzuela bobblehead giveaway, members of the 1981, 1988, 2020 and 2024 championship teams took part in a pregame ceremony that included Valenzuela’s family receiving a framed №34 gold Dodger script jersey.
The day began with the unveiling of a Fernando Valenzuela mural, created by artist Robert Vargas.
After being swept by the Milwaukee Brewers, the Dodgers recovered and won two of three from the Minnesota Twins. Freddie Freeman’s two-out, two-run single on July 23 gave the Dodgers a 4–3 victory and capped the 2–4 homestand.
