Dodgers catcher Will Smith had a night he won’t soon forget at American Family Field, home of the Milwaukee Brewers, on Tuesday evening.
All the 29-year-old Louisville, KY native and Dodgers first round draft pick in 2016 out of the University of Louisville did was go 3-for-4, with a second-inning solo home run to left, a fourth-inning single to left, and a fifth-inning double to left (all off of 34-year-old Brewers right-hander Colin Rea) to come the proverbial ‘triple shy of the cycle’ in the Dodgers 7-2 pounding of The Brew Crew.
“He’s been grinding, man, and you just don’t show it from his demeanor, but he’s been working really hard,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Smith postgame. “And for him to square some balls up, keep a ball fair that was in, another ball that was in and he lined it to left field. So, getting to that pitch, which he wasn’t getting to for the last few weeks, and just to throw out some hits was a good thing.”
A good thing indeed.
Play Ball!
