Shohei Ohtani is among the 10 nominees for the 2025 National League Hank Aaron Award.
Ohtani was named the winner in 2024 after his historic offensive season. He’s the first player in MLB history to win the award in both leagues after he won in 2023 with the Angels.
The award is given annually to the best overall offensive performer in each league. It was introduced in 1999 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Aaron breaking Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record.
Ohtani’s 55 home runs set a new career high and Dodger franchise record. The previous Dodger single-season home run record belonged to Ohtani, when he hit 54 homers last season.
His 146 runs also broke Babe Herman’s single-season Dodger Modern Era record of 143 runs, which was set in 1930. Ohtani was two runs away from tying Hub Collins franchise record of 148 from 1890.
Ohtani led the National League in the following categories:
- Runs: 146
- Slugging Percentage: .622
- OPS: 1.014
- Intentional Walks: 20
- Total Bases: 380
- Extra-Base Hits: 89
- wOBA: .418
- wRC: 148
- wRC+: 172
He finished second in home runs (55) and third in triples (nine) in the National League. He finished the season with a .282/.392/.622/1.014 slash line. His 109 walks set a new career high.
MLB legends and past recipients of the prestigious award comprise a panel that chooses a winner.
The group includes Derek Jeter, David Ortiz, Albert Pujols, Ken Griffey Jr., Chipper Jones, Pedro Martínez, John Smoltz, Johnny Bench, Craig Biggio, Eddie Murray and Robin Yount.
Fans also can cast their vote on who should receive this distinguished award by voting from the list of finalists through MLB.com/aaron up until Oct. 12.
