There is a dark and mysterious force surrounding the Dodgers pitching staff, and its most recent victim to hit the injured list was Tanner Scott.
Scott departed Monday’s game in the middle of an at-bat against Ryan Jeffers, walking off the mound after a pitch that missed low and inside, keeping his left arm stable as he walked off the mound. Scott was placed on the 15-day IL on Tuesday with left elbow inflammation, but his MRI revealed no structural damage to any ligaments in his elbow.
Scott shared the results of the MRI with Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA, feeling optimistic about his likelihood to return this season knowing he avoided a major injury.
“Better than we expected, and I’ll see how it feels in the next couple days and it’s a positive outcome. When it was happening, I had no idea what was going on, because I’ve never had an arm issue in my entire career… after today, it gave me a clear head.”

The trade deadline is just eight days away, and with that come the growing concerns that has surrounded the Dodgers’ on-field inconsistency and decreasing viable depth options.
Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes remained insistent on keeping together the core that the team overwhelmingly spent to secure, while Dave Roberts offered his take on the chances of the team buying at the deadline, per Sonja Chen of MLB.com.
Per Gomes: “The prices are always crazy come the Deadline. That’s why we did everything we could this offseason to not have to be in the position to buy… as of now, our stance hasn’t changed on needing to go out and get additional pieces.”
Per Roberts: “I do think that we’ve shown in the past, if there’s a trade that needs to be made for a high-leverage guy, we’ll do that.”
A pair of old friends made history on Tuesday.
Rich Hill made his Kansas City Royals debut on Tuesday at the age of 45, with former teammate Justin Turner stealing third base against him, who is now in his age-40 season. It is the first time that both base stealer and pitcher were over the age of 40 since Craig Biggio stole a base off of David Wells during the 2007 season. Hill is the oldest pitcher to start a big league game since Jamie Moyer at the age of 49 in the 2012 season. Hill also joins former Dodger Edwin Jackson as the only two players to play for 14 different teams.
Jesse Rogers of ESPN got a kick out of Turner’s impressive swipe.
