LOS ANGELES — Trey Yesavage set a World Series rookie record with 12 strikeouts, and the Toronto Blue Jays opened Game 5 of the World Series with back-to-back homers in a 6-1 victory over the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
Yesavage dealt a serious blow to the Dodgers’ bid to repeat at champions, and moved Toronto within one win of its first World Series title since 1993.
Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. connected on Blake Snell’s first and third pitches, the first consecutive home runs to start a Series game, and Yesavage pretty much took care of things from there. A precocious 22-year-old right-hander who began his season pitching before 327 fans in Class A, he broke the prior rookie record of 11 strikeouts set by Don Newcombe for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1949.
The series resumes with Game 6 on Friday night at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.
Check out some of the images from the final game at Chavez Ravine this season.
