Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow had a night on Monday. A great night.
All the 32-year-old Newhall, CA native and fifth-round draft pick in 2011 by the Pittsburg Pirates out of Hart High School in Santa Clarita, CA and acquired by the Dodgers on December 16, 2023 did was allow one run on NO hits (that’s not a typo) in the National League West first place Los Angeles Dodgers win over the NL West last-place Colorado Rockies in front of a Dodger Stadium crowd of 48,433 on Monday night.
Yes, that lone (hitless) Rockies run was the result of a second-inning leadoff walk of Rockies left fielder Jordan Beck by Glasnow, with Beck stealing second and advancing to third on a flyout to Dodgers right fielder Teoscar Hernández by Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar. Beck then scored on a sacrifice fly to Dodgers left fielder Michael Conforto by Rockies injury-replacement first baseman (and former Dodger) Kyle Farmer, to give Colorado their only run of the game in the Dodgers (and Glasnow’s) eventual 3-1 win.
Glasnow finished his stellar performance with a final line of just that one (earned) run on no hits, with two walks and 11 strikeouts, doing so on 105 pitches of which 65 were strikes.
“Every game, I guess, is a bit different, but I think for me today, like after the fourth, I felt pretty locked in,” Glasnow told reporters postgame. “I think each inning’s kind of it’s own thing and try to keep it as consistent as you can, but I think that whatever I found in the fourth, it felt… it was just everything was on-time,” he added.

As for those three Dodgers runs, the first came on a sixth-inning/one-out double to right by Dodgers soon-to-be (on Friday) first baseman Freddie Freeman to score 27-year-old Dodgers catcher Ben Rortvedt, who had led off the frame with a walk and advanced to second on a subsequent walk of Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, to tie the game at 1-1.
The Dodgers added two more with one out in the bottom of the seventh after Dodgers center fielder Andy Pages was hit by a 97.4-mph fastball (ouch) from Rockies right-hander Angel Chivilli, which was followed by a two-out double to right by (wait for it…) Ohtani, putting runners at second and third with two outs. This was followed by a single to center by Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts, scoring both Pages and Ohtani to make it 3-1

Unfortunately, 31-year-old Dodgers left-hander Tanner Scott was unable to preserve Glasnow’s stellar seven-inning (and 37-year-old Dodgers right-handed reliever Blake Treinen‘s one-inning) no-hitters, when he allowed a double to left by Rockies second baseman Ryan Ritter to leadoff the top of the ninth for the Rockies only hit of the game.
Oh well. Although a one-hitter isn’t as good as a no-hitter, it’s better than a two-hitter – and so on.
