Gotta admit it’s pretty cool that the Dodgers being the only team in MLB history to have played games in six different countries (United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico, South Korea and now Japan) is pretty cool. That said, I also gotta admit that getting up at 3 AM to watch their 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs at the Tokyo Dome was a bit rough.
…and we get to do it again tonight!
Tuesday morning’s game drew a Tokyo Dome sellout crowd of 42,365, a good many of whom were sporting Shohei Ohtani jerseys, which reportedly were going for 75,000 yen ($500), with untold millions more watching on SportsNet LA and MLB.com.
They were not disappointed.
The 30-year-old Oshu, Japan native, who is entering his second year of a 10-year/$700M contract with the Dodgers, went 2-for-5, with a clutch one-out single in the top of the fifth inning and would score the second of three Dodgers runs in the frame. He added a leadoff double to right in the top of the ninth and would score the Dodgers fourth and final run on a one-out single to left by popular Dodgers right fielder Teoscar Hernández.
With their win, the Dodgers are on pace to go 162-0 this season.
